Johnson re-signs with Perth Scorchers

Australian cricket legend Mitch Johnson confirmed as BBL|07 starter with the reigning title-holders

Ashes hero Mitchell Johnson is set to go around for another KFC Big Bash League campaign after Perth Scorchers announced they've signed the fiery left-armer for the forthcoming season.

Johnson will feature in his second BBL campaign having helped the Scorchers to the title last summer.

The powerful quick was Perth's leading wicket-taker during BBL|07, and was the only bowler in the competition to record multiple maiden-overs.

Johnson's triple-strike stuns Stars

He recorded the most economical spell in BBL history with figures of 3-3 in the semi-final against Melbourne Stars.

While he admits he could have gone out on a high if he decided to call that campaign his last having also won the Indian Premier League this year with Mumbai Indians, Johnson said the lure of playing in front of packed-out crowds was difficult to resist.

"Returning for another season is a pretty easy decision when you've got a team like the Perth Scorchers," Johnson said.

"Not only have they played well over the years, but they're also a great bunch of blokes.

"If I'm honest and look at what happened last year - winning the BBL title with the Scorchers and then winning the Indian Premier League with the Mumbai Indians - I should probably retire on a high, but Twenty20 is more and more becoming a game that the older guys can play."

Johnson also said the possibility of pocketing more silverware was a big lure.

"I also feel like there's some unfinished business," he said.

"I want to help the team go back-to-back and, given this is the last season at the WACA Ground, I really can't wait to get back out there and enjoy the atmosphere the amazing crowd creates."

The Scorchers have now filled 15 of their 18 available spots in their BBL|07 squad and are yet to name either of their two permitted overseas players.
