Sachin Tendulkar's son, Arjun named in squad for junior one-day tournament
Tendulkar named for Mumbai Under-19s
Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, will follow in his father’s footsteps when he competes in this month’s JY Lele All India Under-19 One-Day Tournament in Baroda.
Tendulkar was selected in the Mumbai Under-19s squad for the tournament, which begins on September 16 and is played throughout the week.
It will be a daunting task trying to live-up to the iconic status of his father – who made 100 international centuries for India – but the left-arm seam-bowling allrounder will be looking to impress national selectors as he presses for higher honours.
India aren’t the only nation producing quality sons of guns, with Austin Waugh – son of Steve – performing well in the Australia Under-17s side, while Tom O’Donnell and Will Sutherland gained rookie contracts with Cricket Victoria.
Left-armer O'Donnell is the son of former Australia allrounder Simon O'Donnell, who played 87 ODIs and six Tests, while allrounder Sutherland is the son of Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland, who also played four first-class and nine List A matches for Victoria.
May have had a chance to raise the bat a few times but nothing can replace how proud I was of our son today @graynics @CricketAus @HeatBBL pic.twitter.com/a54A0r6N2z— Matthew Hayden AM (@HaydosTweets) August 19, 2017
Earlier in the year, champion Australia batsman Matthew Hayden took to Twitter to express his pride in the performance of his young son Joshua, who made a career-high 71 for Wynnum-Manly in an under-13 match in Brisbane.
