Leg-spinner Maisy Gibson puts pen to paper with a new deal for WBBL|03
Gibson signs new deal with the Thunder
Up-and-coming leg-spinner Maisy Gibson has signed a new contract with Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Rebel Women's Big Bash League season.
Gibson has played 12 games for the Thunder across the opening two seasons, taking 13-wickets.
"I think the competition is getting stronger and stronger," said Gibson.
"This year we'll have a longer lead in to the competition, so we can get together and build our team and relationships, similar to how we did in the first season."
The 20-year-old was part of the inaugural WBBL final win against cross town rivals the Sydney Sixers, and is relishing the opportunity to be part of another Sydney Smash.
"Playing the local derby early will be great," said Gibson.
"We have always drawn a big crowd when we play the Sixers. I know everyone gets amongst it and I really enjoy those games."
Sydney Thunder General Manager Lee Germon paid tribute to Gibson's contribution on and off the field.
"Maisy is a very talented leg-spinner and contributes positively to our team culture," said Germon.
"She has been with us for the last two campaigns and we have been impressed with the hard work she has been putting into her pre-season preparation."
Germon is also looking to add another high-profile international to the Thunder's WBBL squad.
"The reality is that we're interested in getting someone who is going to be a match-winner for us, that's who we're targeting," he said.
"Someone who is going to be an outstanding player for us but also contribute to the squad and help in the development of our players.
"I'm also very keen to get Harmanpreet (Kaur) back and Stafanie (Taylor). They are two players that have done really well for the Thunder."
Sydney Thunder open their Rebel Women's Big Bash League campaign against the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers on December 9 & 10 at North Sydney Oval.
