The match in a tweet: Superstar AB can't do it all! South African shines in return from injury, but Maxwell’s Kings XI cruise to victory

The star: It was hard to tell South African AB de Villiers was on his return from a back injury after he launched a stunning late assault to push RCB to a competitive total of 148. RCB lost three wickets in the batting Power Play, including Shane Watson for 1, and were held back by superb bowling from Axar Patel (1-12 from four overs) and Sandeep Sharma (1-26), the latter conceding just seven runs in his first three overs. But de Villiers lifted his side late in the innings, with two of the nine sixes he hammered landing on the roof of the Holkar Cricket Stadium. He contributed more than 60 per cent of his side's total as they hammered 77 runs from the final five overs of the innings.

The maximums: De Villiers launched nine of the 46 deliveries he faced over the rope, including two high and onto the roof of the ground. All nine of his sixes came in the final five overs of the innings; he hit one in the 16th over and two each in the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th overs. The monster he launched off Sandeep Sharma in the 19th over was so large, commentator Michael Clarke remarked "you should get 10 for that".

The Aussie Pack: It was a mixed night for the four Aussies involved with Glenn Maxwell celebrating his second win as skipper and hitting four sixes on his way to an unbeaten 43 in the run chase. Watson didn't have such a good night, out for 1 and conceding 28 from two overs with the ball, while RCB's Aussie quick Billy Stanlake conceded 41 from four overs and dropped a simple catch on the fine-leg boundary, which bounced off his hand and over the rope for six. Kings XI allrounder Marcus Stoinis finished with 0-28 from three overs with the ball and wasn't required with the bat as his side eased their way to victory.

Super Saha enhances growing reputation

The catch: Wriddhiman Saha showed off his expertise with the gloves during Australia's recent Test series and the Indian was at it again overnight. The diminutive gloveman moved quickly when a top edge from Mandeep Singh sailed high and long over his head, the ‘keeper steadying himself near the boundary rope before diving full length to pluck a beauty.

The fallout: Second on the ladder and with Glenn Maxwell's 100 per cent record as captain intact, Kings XI will travel to Kolkata on Thursday to take on the Knight Riders. RCB, meanwhile, have just one win from three matches and will be desperate to bounce back when they host Mumbai on Friday.
