Aussie ODI squad arrives in Chennai

Steve Smith and his men have touched down in India ahead of next week's ODI series

Australia's one-day international squad has assembled in Chennai ahead of their Qantas Tour of India.

Skipper Steve Smith leads a contingent of seven players, who were involved in the recently concluded two-Test tour of Bangladesh, who arrived on Indian soil on Saturday, joined by vice-captain David Warner, Ashton Agar, Hilton Cartwright, Patrick Cummins, Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Wade.

They joined their teammates who had travelled from Australia and arrived on Friday evening - Aaron Finch, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa, James Faulkner, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head.

The ODI squad will commence training on Sunday, ahead of a 50-over warm-up game in Chennai on September 12.

The venues and dates for Australia’s tour of India were finally confirmed on Thursday, just 10 days before the series gets underway next Sunday.

Australia coach looks ahead to Ashes

The  five-match ODI series will start in Chennai on September 17, while Australia will also play ODIs in Kolkata (September 21), Indore (September 24), Bengaluru (September 28) and Nagpur (October 1) before a three-match T20I series that will be played in Ranchi (October 7), Guwahati (October 10) and Hyderabad (October 13).

With Bupa head coach Darren Lehmann taking a break ahead of the upcoming Magellan Ashes, Australia will be overseen by assistant David Saker.

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council have confirmed the limited-overs tour of India will not be affected by the new rules which come into force later this month.

An update to the way the Decision Review System operates, restrictions on the size of bats and a change to a controversial rule around run-outs are among the key changes that come into effect from the start of Bangladesh's tour of South Africa.

The rules were due to come into effect from October 1, but with the first South Africa v Bangladesh Test starting on September 28 in Potchefstroom to overlap that date, their introduction was brought forward.

India host Australia for the fourth ODI in Bengaluru on the same day. With both matches due to start at 6pm AEST, cricket will see two internationals scheduled to start at the exact same time being played under vastly different playing conditions.

But Australia's ODI tour starts with a first international in Chennai on September 17, and only the fifth and final ODI – in Nagpur – falls in October.
