Silk's long-awaited ton fires attacking Tigers

Opener strikes first century in more than four years before Tasmania middle-order keeps rollicking pace on day two in Hobart

Jordan Silk's fifth first-class century and a Matthew Wade cameo has put Tasmania in a strong position at stumps on day two of their JLT Sheffield Shield clash with NSW at Bellerive Oval.

The Tigers were sent in under gloomy Hobart skies on Monday morning after wild rain wiped out the opening day's play.

But it didn't faze Silk, who hit 104 against a four-strong NSW pace battery containing former Test seamers Doug Bollinger and Trent Copeland.

Drought-breaking ton smooth as Silk

Tasmania finished the day on 4-392, with Test discard Matthew Wade smashing an unbeaten 72 off 68 balls late in the day.

In his first score of note this Shield season, Wade smacked the attack to all corners, hitting nine fours and a six.

Rollicking Wade cracks first fifty for Tasmania

Tasmania, who are chasing rare back-to-back wins after victory over South Australia last round, are best-placed to push for a result with two days to play.

Earlier, Silk shared a 92-run opening run stand with Alex Doolan (42) - the pair stone-walled at fewer than two runs an over through an extended morning session.

The 25-year-old was 96 not out at tea and brought up his hundred shortly after the break.

Destructive Doran blasts rapid 75 for Tasmania

Silk was trapped in front by an inswinging Bollinger (2-82) yorker.

The big quick had Tigers' skipper George Bailey (71) caught behind six overs later to leave the home side at 2-232.

But Wade combined with Jake Doran (75) in a 141-run stand to take the game away from NSW.

Blues skipper Moises Henriques was a late withdrawal in a NSW side looking to cement their position at the top of the Shield table heading into a two-month first-class hiatus.
