All you need to know: Stars v India ODIs

The complete guide to the women's ODI series, kicking off on Tuesday February 2

What is it and what's at stake?

The battle between the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars and India now turns to the 50-over game, starting on Tuesday February 2 at Manuka Oval in Canberra from 2.20pm.

Two games will follow at Hobart's Blundstone Arena, on February 5 and 7, both at 2.20pm.

The matches are part of the inaugural edition of the ICC Women‘s Championship, which sees the top eight sides in the women's game lock horns in a multi-year, bilateral qualifying competition for the Women‘s World Cup.

Watch: Perry's superb half-century

Each side plays each other in three ODIs – either at home or away – between 2014 and 2016, with the top four sides gaining automatic qualification to the next World Cup, to be held in England from August 4-27, 2017.

Australia currently sit equal top of the table with eight wins from nine ODIs, alongside West Indies, but will move to outright first with a series win.

India will be desperate to improve on their ranking of seventh and could move as high as fourth should they sweep the series.

Who's playing?

There are two changes from the Southern Stars squad that lost the T20 series 2-1, with opener Nicole Bolton and legspinner Kristen Beams coming in for Naomi Stalenberg and Lauren Cheatle.

Beams missed the T20 series after dislocating a finger in the Rebel Women's Big Bash League, while Bolton was impressive for the Alcohol. Think Again Western Fury during the 50-over Women's National Cricket League late last year, scoring two centuries.

India's squad features three new faces from the T20s, with Sneh Rana, Ravi Kalpana and Poonam Raut coming in for VR Vanitha, Anuja Patil and Deepti Sharma.

Watch: Lanning's fast start against India

Australia's squad features the world's No.1  batter Meg Lanning and No.8 Ellyse Perry (who is also the fifth-ranked ODI bowler), while India have the top-ranked ODI bowler Jhulan Goswamy at their disposal, alongside sixth-ranked batter Mithali Raj and world No.7 Harpampreet Kaur.

Southern Stars squad:  Meg Lanning, Alex Blackwell, Kristen Beams, Nicole Bolton, Sarah Coyte, Rene Farrell, Holly Ferling, Grace Harris, Alyssa Healy, Jess Jonassen, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt

What's the head-to-head record?

Australia and India have met 38 times in ODIs, with the Southern Stars winning 31 to India's seven.

The last time they met in an ODI series was in India in 2012 when Australia triumphed 3-0, but it was India who came out on top last time they visited Australian shores, winning 2-0 in 2009.

What's the form like?

India will be full of confidence after toppling Australia 2-1 in the T20 series, their first 20-over series win away from home.

Their batting, bowling and fielding were all excellent throughout the three matches and they will be tough to beat.

The Southern Stars will be buoyed by their win in the final T20, however, and with ICC Championship points on the line, they will be full of fight. Ellyse Perry was in outstanding form with bat and ball at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Meg Lanning's excellent summer is sure to continue, while Beth Mooney put together two promising innings in the 20-over game.
