South Australia's Travis Head plays his first one-day international, called up to face the West Indies in St Kitts
Head capped for ODI debut
Travis Head has become the 213th man to represent Australia in one-day international cricket, the left-hander handed a debut for the clash against the West Indies in St Kitts.
Head was presented his gold cap before play by two-time World Cup winner Damien Martyn, who is here in the Caribbean doing commentary work.
Head comes into the side in place of David Warner, who has been ruled out of the series due to a fractured left index finger.
The 22-year-old was rewarded for a stellar 2015-16 domestic season with his maiden international cap in the Australia Day T20 clash against India in Adelaide.
The left-hander had a breakthrough season for South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers, including a record-breaking double century in a Matador BBQs One-Day Cup clash against Western Australia, his first century in any form of domestic cricket.
He went on to hammer three centuries as a led South Australia to the final of the Sheffield Shield while he also scored a memorable KFC Big Bash League century for the Strikers on New Year's Eve.
Martyn became Australia's 109th ODI player when he debuted at the SCG in December 1992, also against the West Indies.
Head will be hoping for more success than Martyn had in his first match; the young Western Australian was bowled for a three-ball duck by Curtly Ambrose in a rain-affected and low-scoring match where the highest individual score from either team was 21. Australia posted just 9-109 from 30 overs in that match before they bowled the Windies out for 87 to win by 14 runs
