Match Report:
ScorecardMatch Recap: Strikers beat Hurricanes
The hero: What an innings from Sophie Devine. The Kiwi all-rounder powered her way to a century off just 48 balls. Devine put on power hitting exhibition as she smashed an incredible eight sixes and 10 fours in her unbeaten innings of 103. Incredibly 88 out of her 103 runs were scored in boundaries and she also scored 71% of the Strikers total. Coming to the crease at 2-5, Devine was brutal against every bowler as she smoked the ball all around the park. There were plenty of crowd catches as the crowd at Glenelg were thoroughly entertained by one of best innings you will ever see.
The Support cast: It was good all-round performance by the Strikers' Tahlia McGrath. Bowling her medium pace McGrath picked up two crucial wickets to finish with 2-32 from four overs. She would then play an ideal supporting role to Devine, remaining unbeaten on 19 to guide the Strikers to a seven wicket win.
The run-out: Sensing a run-out opportunity, Satterthwaite received the ball at the non-striker's end but in the process knocked off the bails before she received the ball. But Satterthwaite still had the presence of mind to quickly hold the ball in her hand while uprooting the stump from the ground.
The Sixes: It is hard to pick which one of Devine's monster hits were the best as each one of them landed way beyond the ropes. It is simply worth watching each of the eight sixes again.
The consolation effort: Spare a thought for Heather Knight, it is not often you score a breezy 67 from 47 balls and still end up on the losing side. The Hurricanes skipper timed the ball beautifully from the start, racing to her first 50 of WBBL|02 before striking it long in the death overs. Knight's innings of 69 included six fours and two gigantic sixes.
Next Stop: It doesn't get any easier for the Hurricanes bowlers as they confront Devine's Strikers again on Tuesday.
