Flush with big-hitting batsmen, it was the Renegades' lack of bowling penetration that saw them fall short of a berth in the BBL finals
Melbourne Renegades: Story of their season
Renegades' BBL|05 by the numbers
The Renegades' strong batting line-up meant they actually managed to reach all their targets bar one throughout a hot-and-cold season. That was against the Strikers in their final hit-out - a match they needed to win comfortably if they were to make the finals.
But while they found riches with their runs, they were found wanting in the bowling department, meaning they ended the season without successfully defending a total. It was a constant problem for the Renegades, who were without Australia pair James Pattinson and Peter Siddle and managed to take just 32 wickets at four per match for BBL|05 - the fewest of any team.
The absence of Australia reps Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade also cost the 'Gades dearly in the back-end of the season, while they'll be smarting after losing both derby matches to the Stars.
Stand-in captain Cameron White proved an outstanding signing from their Melbourne rivals, featuring heavily in two successful run chases in excess of 170, while West Indian Dwayne Bravo was exceptional with bat and ball.
Marquee man Chris Gayle threatened to get going for much of the tournament but didn't get past fifty until the final match - though that was a knock worth watching, as he blazed a world-record equalling 12-ball half-century in the defeat to the Strikers.
