England quick reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of Conduct in tense defeat against South Africa in Cape Town
Topley sanctioned for shattering stumps
Not only did he blow the run-out chance that would have forced a Super Over, England fast-bowler Reece Topley has been hit with a sanction from the ICC for venting his anger at the miss.
Topley was reprimanded by the International Cricket Council for smashing the stumps with his hand in frustration following their tense loss to South Africa in Saturday’s T20.
Proteas batting duo Chris Morris and Kyle Abbott, who needed two runs to win from the final ball of the match in Cape Town, had turned for a second run when Topley missed a run-out opportunity that would have tied the game and forced a Super Over.

The 22-year-old then hit the stumps with his left hand in frustration, sending the bails flying, which the ICC determined to be a Level 1 breach of their Code of Conduct.
Topley was found to have breached Article 2.1.8 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match”.
The left-armer admitted to the offence after the match and accepted the sanction.
The second T20 in Johannesburg, the final match of England's tour of South Africa, begins late on Sunday night (AEDT).
