The Redbacks, sitting in second on the Sheffield Shield ladder, ended Thursday at 5-252, still 222 runs in arrears after Queensland declared before lunch at 6-474.

Report & Highlights: All the action from day one

In his first Shield knock for two months, Lehmann played like he was still in Twenty20 mode, bringing up his 50 off just 33 deliveries.

WATCH: Lehmann goes bang, bang, bang

Lehmann ended day two on 92 from just 81 deliveries, while wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman offered fine support with a more sedate 26 not out.

"The ball was spinning into me and I thought it was a good opportunity to put the pressure back on them" Lehmann said.

"It has worked for me before, so that was the way I went about it and it came off.

"They had a pretty aggressive field so you only have to half hit some and they race away for four.

"We need to push on now. We need to keep putting pressure back on them.

Lehmann has already nabbed a double century for the Redbacks and his latest knock boosted his overnight average to 65.

"It is good to come into the side and perform straight away," Lehmann said.

"That makes me feel comfortable and I guess it is a bit of a self-belief thing."

Sam Raphael was the only other SA batter to make a significant contribution, making 65 before treading on his stumps to become the maiden first-class wicket for part-timer Charlie Hemphrey.

WATCH: Confusion reigns with Raphael dismissal

Lehmann's knock partly overshadowed an entertaining maiden first-class century from Queensland rookie Jack Wildermuth.

Resuming at 5-357 the Bulls piled on 117 runs in just 22 overs to allow for an early declaration.

The Bulls declared with Wildermuth unbeaten on 100 and captain James Hopes, playing in his 100th Shield match, on 22.

New Australian Test squad inclusion Chadd Sayers failed to make any impression for the Redbacks, returning figures of 1-111 off 28 overs.

Queensland entered the match in fifth and desperately needing a win to stay in touch with the leading pack.
