Sheffield Shield final venues confirmed

Victoria to play in Alice Springs should they earn the right to host the Sheffield Shield final

Next month’s Sheffield Shield final could be headed to Glenelg or Alice Springs after Cricket Australia confirmed each state's nominated venue for the 2015-16 event.

While the Gabba, WACA Ground and Blundstone Arena will all be available for the Shield final on March 26-30 should Queensland, Western Australia or Tasmania respectively finish on top of the table and claim the right to host the five-day event, Victoria, South Australia and NSW will not have access to their regular grounds.

The Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers, who currently sit on top of the table with four rounds remaining, will host the final at Alice Spring's Traeger Park should they hold on to that position.

The Bushrangers will have a chance to take a closer look at the ground when they meet the NSW Blues at Traeger Park in the final round of the regular Shield season from March 15.

Should the West End Redbacks – who currently occupy second place on the table – usurp Victoria, the final would be played at Glenelg's Gliderol Stadium, while a venue for the Blues should they finish on top has yet to be confirmed, with the SCG unavailable, but NSW has nominated Coffs Harbour as their preference.

Last year, the Bushrangers played host to the Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors at Hobart's Blundstone Arena for the final, with a draw enough to see the Victorians claim the honours, while in 2013-14, Shield final was hosted by NSW in Canberra after the SCG was booked for an exhibition baseball match.

"We’re pleased to confirm the nominated Final venues for the Sheffield Shield which will end the official 2015-16 cricket season," Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations Sean Cary said.

"Three of our six states are in positions where their regular season venues are unavailable, meaning they needed to nominate an alternative ground for Cricket Australia approval.

"A venue for New South Wales will be confirmed closer to the Final should they look likely to finish in top position.

"This Sheffield Shield season has been one of the most notable in its 123-year history, including hosting two under day-night conditions as well as playing the first ever match overseas in Lincoln, New Zealand last week."
