Match Recap: Stars defeat Heat

A brilliant batting display by Meg Lanning helped the Melbourne Stars crush the Brisbane Heat in front of their home crowd

Match in tweet: The 'Lanning Show' helps the Stars crush the Heat by 54 runs as they remain at the top of the table

The hero: Can anyone make batting look as easy as Meg Lanning? The 'Megastar' was at her scintillating best smashing her way to the second-highest WBBL score. Lanning remained unbeaten on 97, from 72 balls, as she hammered the Heat bowlers all over the park. Preferring to hit the ball in the air Lanning got into the groove with a gorgeous shot over mid-off for six. She capitalised on any width as she sent the ball racing to the fence with some scorching cut shots and her innings included 11 fours and three massive sixes.

The support cast: Danielle Hazell has been exceptional with the new ball for the Stars. Hazell's was not only economical, but she also managed to pick up the wickets of Beth Mooney (2) and Delissa Kimmince (3) to finish with 2-17. Morna Nielsen also deserves her mentioned for her return of 4-0-19-3.

The Shot: Meg Lanning is not renowned for hitting the ball in the air especially early in her innings, but today the Stars skipper begun her assault on the Heat bowlers with a classy lofted drive over mid-off for six.
