Dhoni hits out at Asia Cup pitches

The India skipper is not happy with the pitches being prepared in Bangladesh

India captain MS Dhoni has hit out at the bowler-friendly pitches seen so far in the Asia Cup, claiming it is actually hindering subcontinent nations' preparations for next month's World Twenty20.

The Asia Cup in Bangladesh has seen bowlers heavily favoured, with low scores the norm and Pakistan managing just 83 against India in the fourth match of the Twenty20 tournament on Saturday.

The India skipper said it was not what fans wanted to see.

“The reason why people love T20 is for the sixes and fours," the India skipper said following the five-wicket victory over Pakistan.

"You do not want 80s or 100s to be scored. Low-scoring should be a 135 or 130."

Those type of scores are unlikely to be competitive at the World Twenty20 in India and Dhoni has queried whether this is good for his side.

“The amount of movement we have seen so far, it is very difficult to just come out and play big shots," Dhoni said.

Quick Single: Kohli in awe of super Amir

"One game we scored (166) but you know it seemed like a game where we will score 140.

"Because of the firepower and a few good overs, we were able to score (166) but other than that, all the other games played have been low-scoring games which is not very good.

"We thought it will be a very good practice before getting into the T20 World Cup. When it comes to the hitting, maybe not."

However Dhoni said being able to read the different conditions and adjust quickly could help his side.

"When it comes to reading the game and respecting the condition, it has been good for us," he said.

"We are a side which plays aggressive cricket so it pushes us to respect the condition when the wickets are not batting-friendly."

India's next match at the Asia Cup is against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, before they take on U.A.E on March 3.
