Pakistan bowlers run through CA XI

Pakistan's bowlers remain on song ahead of next week's first Commonwealth Bank Test in Brisbane, easily dismissing a Cricket Australia XI for 109 to set up a 201-run win on Saturday's third and final day in Cairns.

The visitors required just 27.2 overs to roll through the inexperienced home side, after they declared at 6-216 - setting a target of 311 with two sessions to play.

However they needed just one, as spinner Mohammad Nawaz claimed three wickets and pacemen Mohammad Amir and Rahat Ali two each, following on from dismissing the hosts for 114 in the first innings. 

Amir (2-18) again looked dangerous with the new ball, sharply swinging it back after he also claimed three wickets on Thursday night in his opening two overs of the first innings.

Ali (2-19) also pressed his claims for a Test recall, the left-armer trapping both openers, Jimmy Pearson and Jake Carder, lbw on balls that stayed low.

The country's quickest bowler, Wahab Riaz (1-34), was far less consistent in his six overs, while Nawaz (3-31) capitalised on a number of loose strokes.

The visitors' fielding was also impressive. Babar Azam snared a ball that flew quick and to his left at gully off Amir to dismiss Jake Winter (0), while Asad Shafiq performed a diving run-out to get rid of Josh Inglis (0).

Teenager Arjun Nair was the only Australian to show any resistance, eventually caught trying to sweep Nawaz on 42.

Pakistan opener Azhar Ali had earlier warmed up for the first Test, starting on Thursday in Brisbane, with an unbeaten 82.

Ali, who was particularly watchful in his 153 balls on Friday to go to stumps on 44, upped the ante on Saturday by adding 38 to his score off 56 balls.

He struck three of his seven fours and two sixes on the final afternoon, as Pakistan increased their run rate before declaring to set up the result.

Nawaz was unbeaten alongside him on 36 off 47 balls against a home side with just 27 Sheffield Shield matches between them.

Sarfraz Ahmed was the only man to be dismissed on Saturday afternoon - bowled for 39 by Ryan Lees when he attempted to pull a ball that stayed low.

The visitors started the day at 5-124 after they lost four of their top-order batsmen in the final session of Friday - under lights and against the pink ball, ahead of the day-night Test at the Gabba.
