Melbourne Stars coach lands new IPL deal, where he will mentor Australian skipper Steve Smith
Fleming named coach of Pune
Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming has landed another head coaching job in the Indian Premier League, in charge of new franchise Pune.
Fleming signed a two-year deal with Pune, one of two teams added to the IPL in place of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who were both suspended following a corruption scandal.
Pune owner Sanjeev Goenka says Fleming is a proven coach at Twenty20 level, having guided the Super Kings to IPL titles in 2010 and 2011.
"He has been remarkably successful as a player in the international arena and I firmly believe that his technical know-how, perseverance and organisation skills will work wonders for our team," Goenka said.
Fleming, who will now coach Australian captain Steve Smith in the IPL, was always a favourite for the job once Pune made Indian captain MS Dhoni their first pick in the IPL player draft in December.
Fleming and Dhoni formed a tight and successful bond during their time together at Chennai.
The ninth edition of the IPL will start on April 9.
