The World Cup final has broken Australian cricket's attendance record with more than 93,000 people turning up to see Australia beat New Zealand for 50-over cricket's ultimate prize.

And Cricket Australia has now announced there will be a public event to celebrate Australia's victory.

"Cricket Australia will hold a public event for the Australian Cricket World Cup Squad at Federation Square in Melbourne on Monday 30 March, to celebrate its victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015," said CA, in a statement.

"The free fan event will take place at Federation Square at 11:30am.

"The squad will take to the stage with the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy before signing autographs and meeting with fans in attendance. Fans will also have the chance to hear from Australian Captain Michael Clarke and Coach Darren Lehmann.

"The public celebration is the team’s opportunity to show thanks to the Australian public, which came out in force throughout the ICC Cricket World Cup to support the team."

In relation to the new record crowd at the MCG, organisers announced late on Sunday during the Australia innings that 93,013 people were inside the MCG.

That total surpassed the previous record of 91,112 fans that was set on day one of the 2013 Boxing Day Test.

The previous one-day international record crowd was 87,182, set when Pakistan beat England to win the 1992 World Cup final at the MCG.
