No rest for Australia's Cup champions

Bulk of Australia's World Cup squad head to IPL ahead of tours of West Indies and England

Australia's cricketing heroes have been celebrating long and hard following Sunday's World Cup win, but have little time for rest and recovery with the majority of the squad heading to the sub-continent for the Indian Premier League, which starts in Kolkata next week.

Eleven of Australia's 15 World Cup squad members will arrive in India for the eighth edition of the world's biggest Twenty20 competition, the exceptions being Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Marsh and Xavier Doherty.

There will be 25 Australian players in the IPL this year while eight Aussies will take up coaching positions, including Ricky Ponting (Mumbai Indians), Tom Moody (Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Trevor Bayliss (Kolkata Knight Riders), who all take on roles as head coach.

The IPL wraps up on May 24 before Australia's Test players head to the Caribbean for a two-match series against the West Indies. The tour starts with a warm-up match in Antigua on May 30.

National Selector Rod Marsh will on Tuesday morning announce the squads for both the West Indies and Ashes tours, as well as the 2015-16 centrally-contracted male player list.

It is expected the bulk of those named for the Caribbean tour will soldier on to the UK for the Ashes tour, which starts on June 25 with a tour match against Kent.

The first of five Ashes Tests get underway in Cardiff on July 8 before a series of limited over matches, the last of which is on September 13.

There will also be a strong Australian contingent in English county cricket this year, with 12 Aussies to take up contracts at various times during the year.

They include Australia's World Cup stars Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell, who will both play for Jason Gillespie's Yorkshire, while Adam Voges, Jackson Bird and Ben Hilfenhaus will ply their trade in the English domestic leagues.

After the Ashes, Australia's Test stars will head to Bangladesh for a two-Test tour in October, before the 2015-16 Australian summer swings into gear with Tests against New Zealand and then the West Indies.

As Australia's cricketers chase their endless summer, cricket.com.au will remain Australia's No.1 destination for cricket news from both home and abroad. Live scores, news and features and exclusive video access from within the team provided by journalists and camera operators on tour with the teams will be provided throughout the year ahead.
