Opening batsman says he is not sure which line-up selectors will opt for on Boxing Day
Burns unsure about Boxing Day Test XI
Joe Burns says he has been frustrated by his form this summer and is unsure where he sits in a Boxing Day Test selection showdown against Shaun Marsh.
Usman Khawaja, who scored a sparkling century for Sydney Thunder in the KFC Big Bash League in his return from a hamstring strain, appears set to be recalled for Australia's second Commonwealth Bank Test against the West Indies, leaving Burns and Shaun Marsh pitched in a battle for one remaining spot in the XI.
Burns arrived in Melbourne on Tuesday and said chairman of selectors Rod Marsh had yet to address the elephant in the room.
"No contact, everyone's been busy with the Big Bash and their different franchises," Burns said.
"It's not until you all get together that you catch up again.
"I'm just focused on getting to each day, training as hard as I can with a view to making sure I'm ready to play."
Quick single: Hussey drafted in for Boxing Day
Australia will train on Wednesday, when the selectors' thoughts could become clearer.
"It's going to be a tough call," Burns said.
"All the players will understand selection is part of the game .. it's not the end of the world.
"You're going to be there to support your mates and try and help them through it if they're feeling a little bit down."
Watch: Burns scores maiden Test ton
Burns has played all four Tests, three against New Zealand and one against West Indies, this summer, opening the batting alongside David Warner following the retirement of Chris Rogers.
The 26-year-old celebrated his maiden Test ton in Brisbane last month but since then has logged scores of 40, zero, 14, 11 and 33 for Australia.
"It's been frustrating," Burns admitted.
"Because as a opening batter the hardest thing to do is probably getting a start.
"To go on and waste it, to make some 30s and 40s - it doesn't really count for much.
"The satisfying thing is I am getting a start ... but the frustrating part is that with those starts you should be making 50s at least and 100s ideally."

Warner has been one of the mentors helping Burns as he attempts to change that.
"I've been quite lucky, he's kind of taken me under his wing a little bit," Burns said.
"He's tried to teach me as much as possible."
Watch: Khawaja scores 174
Shaun Marsh scored 182 as Australia crushed the West Indies in Hobart, while his 49 helped steer the hosts home in the inaugural day-night Test against New Zealand.
Quick single: McCullum announces retirement date
Khawaja scored two Test tons prior to breaking down and is fully expected to be rushed back into the XI.
Burns is far from begrudging, having watched his Queensland teammate work incredibly hard since undergoing a knee reconstruction a year ago.
"I see him every day and the rehab he has to go through with injuries," Burns said.
"It was fantastic to see (Khawaja score a ton for the Thunder).
"I was really happy for him, he thoroughly deserved it. I was stoked."
