Faulkner lands knockout sledge on KP

The banter between Faulkner and Pietersen continues after loss in Adelaide

The friendly feud between Melbourne Stars teammates James Faulkner and Kevin Pietersen has gone up a notch following last night's KFC Big Bash League loss to Adelaide Strikers.

The Stars went down to the Strikers by 19 runs at the Adelaide Oval, failing to chase down the hosts' 5-187 that was set up by a century stand between veteran Brad Hodge and man of the match Alex Ross.

Pietersen made 22 from 17 balls while Faulkner could only manage 10 off as many deliveries against a disciplined Strikers bowling attack.

On the flight home to Melbourne today, Faulkner tweeted a photo of his English teammate in an exit row seat, suggesting his efforts with the bat last night didn't require the extra leg room.

Pietersen hit back, pointing the blame at Faulkner for his run-a-ball effort and not living up to his nickname as 'The Finisher' for his tremendous ability to steer Australia home to victory in one-day international run chases.

But it was Faulkner who had the last laugh, bringing to light Pietersen's international aspirations with the use of a clever hashtag.

The exchange was in good nature, with Faulkner speaking to cricket.com.au about the friendly rivalry he and Pietersen share.
