Super Stars rule in all three formats

The Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars' victory in the one-off Women's Test match has not only moved them within touching distance of victory in the Women's Ashes, it has also seen Australia return to the No.1 ranking in all three formats of the game.

It is only the second time Australia has had either the men's or women's team ranked No.1 across all three formats, after the Stars also held the triple crown between February and August 2013.

South Africa's men's team fleetingly touched the top of the tree in in all three formats in mid-2012, while England's women's scaled those heights in 2009 following victory in the World Cup and Ashes.

The Southern Stars sit pretty at the top of the ICC Women's Championship, five points clear of South Africa's women's team.

The Women's Championship is a multi-year ODI tournament that sees each side play each other three times, with the top four teams earning automatic qualification to the 2017 Women's World Cup.

And the Southern Stars are the top-ranked women's T20 team, having claimed last year's Women's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, beating England in the final.

There is no official ICC women's Test team ranking with just Australia, England and India playing the longest format of the game, however Australia's 161-run victory in Canterbury is enough to have the Southern Stars declared the World No.1 in the format.

Ellyse Perry's six wickets on the final day at the St Lawrence Ground helped the Southern Stars dismiss England for 101, leading them to a big win that put them six points clear in the multi-format Women's Ashes.

The victory was the first time Australia had defeated England in a Test on foreign soil since 2001 and meant Meg Lanning’s charges now need to win only one of the three remaining T20 internationals to regain the Women’s Ashes.

The Southern Stars' efforts have also seen Lanning now ranked the No.1 ranked batter in women’s ODIs and T20 cricket.

The 23-year-old was the leading run-scorer in the Women's Ashes-opening three-match ODI series against England, posting 195 runs at 65 including a century in the second match in Bristol, her sixth in ODI cricket.

Captain of the 50 and 20-over world champion Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars, Lanning claimed the top spot in ODIs for the first time last month, leapfrogging Ashes rivals Sarah Talyor and counterpart Charlotte Edwards.

There was good news in the latest individual rankings update too for Perry, whose Player-of-the-Series performance saw her shoot into the top 10 of the ODI batting and bowling rankings.

Perry’s 193 runs, featuring scores of 78, 48 and 67, vaulted the 24-year-old to a career-high eighth place in the batting rankings, while her three wickets moved her up five spots to fifth amongst the bowlers.

Her 6-32 in the second innings of the Test match went with 3-38 in the first innings saw her continue her all-round dominance of the women's game.
