Henriques set to miss remainder of BBL|05

Sixers captain succumbs to torn calf, sustained while batting against the Stars

Sydney Sixers are consigned to being without captain and star allrounder Moises Henriques for the rest of the KFC Big Bash League season.

Henriques was carried off the SCG on Sunday night during their match against Melbourne Stars, with the Sixers confirming today that scans have revealed the 28-year-old has suffered an upper grade tear in his left calf.

It's the same calf Henriques injured earlier in the season and the Sixers say he's "unlikely" to return before BBL|05 concludes on January 24.

Batsman Nic Maddinson will captain the Sixers in Henriques's absence.

Henriques, who was flying on 41 not out midway through the Sixers' innings against the Stars, pulled up short when he took off for a run, stumbling mid-pitch and grabbing high on his left calf.

The allrounder appeared to be in significant pain and was eventually carried off the ground in a medicab.

He suffered a right calf injury in similar fashion during the Matador Cup last year.

Not only has the injury cost the Sixers their skipper and one of their best players, it's also put paid to Henriques's international ambitions in the short term.

He will surely miss Australia's limited-overs matches against India in January, while it's also hurt his chances for the month-long tour of New Zealand in February and then the World T20 in India in March and April.

The 28-year-old played the last of his six one-day internationals in January this year. He has also played three Tests and four T20s for Australia.

Henriques fired with both bat and ball for the Sixers in their win over the Melbourne Renegades last week, taking 1-27 and hitting a crucial 62 with the bat.

And he continued that good form against the Stars, hitting four fours before the injury struck.

Henriques has had no luck on the injury front in 2015; he was involved in a collision with Surrey teammate Rory Burns earlier this year, suffering a badly broken jaw.
