Silk takes stunning outfield catch

Mark Waugh rates Silk's latest effort better than his stunning catch at the Gabba last season

Sydney Sixers batsman Jordan Silk has taken one of the catches of the season in the KFC T20 Big Bash League clash against Sydney Thunder at the SCG tonight.

Sprinting in from deep mid-wicket as a skied pull shot from Chris Green looped high into the air, Silk dove full length and grabbed ball in his right hand just millimetres above the ground.

Making the catch even more impressive was the presence of Sixers spinner Stephen O'Keefe, who was sprinting back from the in-field towards Silk as he dived forward to take the catch.

Silk later revealed he was so focused on keeping his eyes on the ball that he didn't know O'Keefe was hurtling towards him.

"I knew it was going to be a tough one to try and get," Silk told Channel 10.

"I just had to get there as quick as I could and luckily enough I stuck out the right paw and it went in."

Silk made a name for himself with a stunning one-handed catch against Brisbane Heat last season, but his effort tonight was rated an even better catch by National Selector and Channel 10 commentator Mark Waugh.

Silk's amazing catch from last season

Co-commentator Ricky Ponting, who has long rated Silk one of the best fielders in Australia, disagreed with Waugh and said his effort at the Gabba was a superior catch.

The catch was part of a golden night for Silk, who hit a match-winning innings of 69 from 43 balls, including 43 off his final 13 balls, as the Sixers won with a boundary from the final ball of the match.
