Chris Rogers and Steve Smith dismissed in a disastrous first over for Australia
Broad rips out Aussie top order to pass 300
Stuart Broad has annihilated Australia on the opening morning of the fourth Test as the visitors were humbled for just 60 at Trent Bridge.
Broad took a career-best 8-15 in just 9.3 overs, ripping the heart out of Australia’s top order to reduce Michael Clarke’s men to 7-33 after Alastair Cook won the toss and chose to bowl in perfect seam bowling conditions.

The 29-year-old dismissed Australia opener Chris Rogers off the third ball of the day to claim his 300th Test wicket and become the fourth Englishman to join the exclusive club behind James Anderson, Ian Botham, Bob Willis and Fred Trueman.
Rogers edged a wobbling Broad delivery on off-stump through to Cook at first slip to depart for the first duck of his Test career.
Rogers had scored in each of his 45 previous Test innings to set a new world record as the longest streak since debut to first duck.

However, his Trent Bridge dismissal means the longest entire career without a duck record passes to another Australian.
Jimmy Burke, who played as a batsman in the 1950s, enjoyed a 24-Test, 44-innings career without a dreaded zero.
Broad’s landmark wicket trigged an epic collapse as Australia wilted under the pressure of England’s opening attack beneath grey skies on a lush pitch and against a brand new Dukes ball.

Steve Smith was the next man to go, out off the last ball of Broad’s first over to become the fast bowler’s 200th wicket in the United Kingdom.
Shaun Marsh replaced brother Mitchell in the middle order but failed to make an impression, caught at second slip by Ian Bell pushing at a full ball outside off-stump.
Ben Stokes then reeled in an absolute screamer at fifth slip, defying gravity by floating horizontally off the ground, taking Adam Voges’ edge one-handed to send the Western Australian packing for one.

The Nottingham local then completed his bag with the wicket of Clarke, who slashed at wide half-volley that was arguably Broad’s worst delivery of the day.
Broad’s five-wicket haul came in just 19 balls, the equal fastest in Test history after Australia’s Ernie Toshack’s effort against India at the Gabba in 1947.
The 29-year-old also became the first English bowler since Sydney Barnes in 1913 to take five wickets before lunch on the first day of a Test.
And when Clarke fell off the 37th ball of the day it was the shortest time in Test cricket that a team has lost its first six wickets.
Broad then cleaned up the tail of Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson and Nathan Lyon to finish with the third best bowling figures against Australia, behind countryman Jim Laker who claimed 10-53 and 9-37 in Manchester in 1956.
