Cameron to take indefinite break

The Southern Stars will be without one of their most powerful batters when they defend their Women’s World T20 crown next year, with Jess Cameron set to take an indefinite break from cricket.

The 26-year-old, who moved from Victoria to the Western Fury this season, will play out the remainder of the 50-over Women's National Cricket League but will not play for the Perth Scorchers in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League season.

She has also confirmed she will be unavailable for selection for the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars for their upcoming campaigns against India and New Zealand, or for next year’s World T20 in India.

A Cricket Australia statement said confirmed Cameron would "take a break from her domestic and international cricket commitments indefinitely".

"Cameron will play out the remainder of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) season for the Alcohol.Think Again Western Fury, which concludes at the end of November.

"Cameron will not be available for the Perth Scorchers in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and is unavailable for selection for the national team until further notice."

Cameron, who helped Australia win back the women’s Ashes in England earlier this year, scored a century for Prahran Cricket Club at the weekend, and made headlines late month when she debuted for Prahran men’s fourth XI in Victorian Premier Cricket.

She made her international debut in 2009 as a 19-year-old, and in 2013 claimed the Belinda Clark Award for best international player, while she has also celebrated a World Cup and three World T20 victories with the Southern Stars.

Currently sitting at No.11 in ICC women’s ODI rankings and No.18 on the Twenty20 table, Cameron boasts a high score of 50 from her three Tests for Australia.

She has averaged 37.20 in her 50 ODIs for the Southern Stars with a high score of 90 not out, and enhanced her reputation for big-hitting in her 64 Twenty20s where she scored her 941 runs at a strike rate of 107.54.

Cameron has also earned a reputation as a talented women’s Australian Rules player for Wyndham Vale in the Victorian Women’s Football League.
