Shane Watson was the victim of an unlucky dismissal in Cardiff
Cricket Gods offside with luckless Watson
Out of sorts and out of luck, Shane Watson has suffered a bizarre dismissal in Australia's Twenty20 international loss to England on Monday.
The affable 34-year-old has endured a difficult tour of the UK and has said it has been tough to play a such a minor role.
Watson was dropped following Australia's first Test defeat in Cardiff in mid-July and watched on as the visitors handed back the Ashes.
Quick single: England prevail in Twenty20 nailbiter
Looking for a change of fortune in the limited overs portion of the Qantas Tour of the British Isles, Watson was instead the victim of a luckless wicket in the standalone T20.
The allrounder played on to his stumps to be out for eight, moments after a glorious cover drive had hinted at a change of fortune.
Watson looked to have executed a solid defensive stroke straight into the pitch, but looked on in horror as it spun back towards the stumps.
He haplessly swung a leg out to divert it from its path to the stumps - but the air swing was only able to cause laughter from the England team balcony as they watched replays on the big screen.
Watch: England win T20 thriller
Captain Steve Smith sympathised with the two-time Allan Border medal winner.
"It was a little bit unlucky, wasn't it?" he said.
"I guess that's just the game of cricket though.
"It was a tough one for him and we had to rebuild after that."
