Pitch invader hits Big Bash clash

Crowd member interrupts play at the SCG and faces heavy fine

In the wake of a pitch invader in tonight's KFC Big Bash League match at the SCG, Cricket Australia reinforces its firm stance of condemning any such behaviour on a cricket field.

The reckless spectator, who invaded the playing surface during Sydney Sixers' first innings, will be on the receiving end of a hefty fine, possible conviction and headache after his actions on Sunday night.

According to the Sydney Cricket Ground website, a fan who invades the field can receive a penalty up to $5,500 plus conviction notices from the NSW Police.

Cricket Australia will also hand out a banning notice to the individual, preventing him from attending all CA matches for 12 months.

Streakers pose a serious threat to not only themselves, but more importantly the athletes competing.

In May 2008, a streaker sprinted towards the middle of the Gabba only to run directly into the right shoulder of ex-Australia allrounder Andrew Symonds.

Symonds, who has trained with National Rugby League club Brisbane Broncos, levelled the naked intruder before security escorted him off the field.
