WA all-rounder dominates Imparja Cup match
The man behind THOSE 5-0 figures
Perth all-rounder, Michael Bailey, has his eyes set firmly on a Warriors contract after taking the remarkable figures of 5-0 off 3.2 overs in Western Australia’s opening match of the Imparja Cup.
The left-arm orthodox bowler took the new ball at Albrecht Oval, and didn’t have to wait long for his first victim, bowling Northern Territory opener Adrian McAdam for five. From then on it was a procession for the boys in yellow, knocking the NT side over for 56.
The WA skipper was quick to laud his teammates however, crediting their ability to bowl to plans and build pressure from the other end for his success.
“With the ball, it’s all about partnerships. One guy will get the reward one day and another guy will get the reward the next,” Bailey said.
After the game, Bailey revealed to cricket.com.au that bowling isn’t even his preferred discipline.
“Batting sort of comes naturally,” he said.
“After Christmas, I’ve scored two hundreds, a 90 and have gained a lot of confidence. It’s funny what a bit of form can do.”
That form may carry the WA skipper all the way to a professional contract, but for now he’s just concentrating on enjoying his cricket.
“I love to bowl in Twenty20s. I love it when batters are trying to slog me out of the ground because you’re more of a chance of getting a wicket. That’s why Imparja Cup is such good fun,” said Bailey.
Bailey’s next challenge will come against a struggling Victorian outfit on Thursday, as he looks to book Western Australia a spot in the next stage of the competition.
