Ponting receives new accolade

Long serving Board member also recognised

The brilliant career of cricket legend Ricky Ponting has again been recognised after he was presented with Life Membership at Cricket Tasmania's Annual General Meeting on Monday night.

Ponting, who retired with 13,378 runs from 168 Test matches, was nominated by fellow recipient Tony Harrison.

"Thousands of young Tasmanians, indeed many more around the world, are playing cricket because of the influence and achievements of Ricky Ponting," said Harrison, a long serving Chairman at Cricket Tasmania.

"Ricky Ponting is a true legend of world cricket and will always be known as Tasmanian cricket's favourite son."

In a first-class career that began in November 1992, Ponting scored 6,667 runs at an average of 61.16 for his beloved Tasmanian Tigers, his final game with the state saw him lift the Sheffield Shield in early 2013.

Harrison joined the Cricket Tasmania Board in 1992 and has been CT's representative on Cricket Australia's Board since 2002. He also sits on CA's international and industrial relations committees and is Chairman of the National Females in Cricket Reference Group.

"I have derived a great deal of pleasure from my time on the Cricket Tasmania Board and it has been an honour to serve the Tasmanian cricketing public," Harrison said.

In other news from the AGM, Australia Test great and current ICC Match Referee David Boon was elected to a position on the CT Board, replacing Ben Targett.
