Twitter reacts to Australia returning to Test summit

Australia's return to the top of the Test rankings has seen an explosion on Twitter, with fans, friends and players sending their messages of congratulation to Michael Clarke and his men.

The news broke at 6.30am Thursday morning following an official statement by the International Cricket Council, and shortly after Cricket Australia's Digital Media twitter account @CricketAus and Michael Clarke's personal handle @MClarke23 began trending across the country.

The ICC's Test team rankings formula works on a rolling, weighted four-year cycle. Rankings are updated after each series, but each may points accrued four years ago drop off. Points gained in the year prior to August 2011 drop off from the rankings calculation from today, which is how Australia has regained the No.1 position – and South Africa lose it – without a ball being bowled.
