Ahead of the first Commonwealth Bank Ashes Test at the Gabba today, we bring you the latest news and information.

England: Cook (c), Carberry, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Root, Prior (wk), Broad, Swann, Tremlett, Anderson.

So Nathan Lyon plays, James Faulkner is the 12th man and George Bailey becomes the 436th person to represent Australia at Test Cricket. Former captain Mark Taylor presented him with his Baggy Green this morning.

For England, Matt Prior has overcome a left calf strain and will take his place in the side.

Toss

Alaistair Cook called tails, the coin fell heads. Michael Clarke wins the toss and Australia will bat.

Form Guide

Senior journalist Andrew Ramsey has previewed the form of all players heading into today’s Test.

Weather

Bright and clear skies in Brisbane this morning, so a full day’s play at the Gabba is expected. However, the forecast is for a late storm tomorrow, but Gabba curator Kevin Mitchell is expecting the storm to be late in the day. Mitchell is hopeful of three clear days but is not at all confident for days four and five. Check the most recent updates here.

Pitch

Andrew Ramsey reports some small cracks have appeared in the pitch on the eve of the first Test, making a four-pronged pace attack unlikely. It’s a win the toss and bat first kind of day.

Hours of play

It's a 10am start in Brisbane, Queensland time, with the toss and official team announcements at 9.30am. Lunch is from 12pm to 12.40pm, Tea is 2.40pm to 3pm and stumps are scheduled to be drawn at 5pm. Don't forget to adjust for your local timezone.
