Fans closer to the action than ever

This summer Australian cricket fans will be closer to the action than ever before with state-of-the-art LED tri-vision sightscreens in stadiums across the country.

Designed and built in Australia, the sightscreens will be the first large format LED screens on the field of play in world sport and the home-grown technology is already sparking international interest from cricket venues and baseball stadia in the United States.

Cricket Australia and Team Epic will unveil the screens on the opening day of the first Commonwealth Bank Ashes Test in Brisbane on Thursday and fans will be able to watch replays, statistics and other information at key moments throughout internationals and the majority of the KFC T20 Big Bash League.

“CA, state associations, venues and partners have invested heavily in this innovation to provide spectators and commercial partners with an experience unlike any in world sport,” CA Executive General Manager Operations, Mike McKenna, said.

“We worked with Team Epic to understand what our fans wanted, how our corporate partners could benefit and then identified technology suppliers to offer this better fan experiences and sponsor engagement.”

There will be two additional LED screens at all international venues except Sydney’s Stadium Australia, and they will also be used at BBL|03 venues apart from Stadium Australia and Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.

Designed by Displaynet and Camden Signs, the screens use purpose-built Mitsubishi Electric LED panels and were constructed in a Melbourne factory that was especially fitted out for the task.

“We’ve already had enquiries from other cricketing nations, as well as some baseball stadia in the United States interested in investigating how the technology can be applied to their sport,” said McKenna.

“We believe it will quickly become a sought-after innovation for major professional sports.”
