Current Australia coach Darren Lehmann has never been one to take himself too seriously, so this was an offer he was only too happy to accept . . . even if it did involve sprinting 110 metres and hurdling beer kegs while being decked out head-to-toe in lycra.
Classic Adelaide moments: No3
Kiwi batsman Mark Richardson nominated Lehmann for the post-Test challenge, with the Australian installed as pre-match favourite.
But of the two rotund rogues, it was Richardson who streaked away, leaving a snail-paced Lehmann in his wake.
"Once I got to the keg and got over that I was pretty happy," Richardson said at the time. "I thought at that stage he might actually stop and sit down and have a drink from the keg but he kept running."
Lehmann admitted a mid-race break was on the cards.
"I certainly thought about a quick drink, yeah, I'm looking for a drink now," he laughed.
Richardson had sized up Lehmann as his best chance for a win, and was relieved to get across the line first.
"The boys wouldn't let me back into the changeroom if we didn't win this one," laughed the opener, who managed scores of just 19, four, nine and 16 through the two-Test series.
"On a personal low note, the only thing I'll be remembered for in Australia is stupidity.”
