Injury strikes Sachin in retirement

Indian Cricket Team legend tweets a photo from hospital after undergoing surgery

If he were still playing, knee surgery for Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar would cause great concern for India cricket fans.

Fast forward to Tendulkar's post-career, and knee surgery for the 'Little Master' only serves to trend on social media - especially when India's all-time leading run scorer posts a photo after undergoing the operation.

“Some injuries trouble even after retirement, but I will be back very soon doing the things I enjoy. Had a knee operation & resting,” Tendulkar wrote from a hospital in London.

The post was immediately shared, liked and commented on by thousands of cricket fans around the world.

Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Aktar was quick to send his best wishes, tweeting: "Get better and soon my friend. Wish you best."

Tendulkar's former teammate VVS Laxman followed up with: "Wishing you a speedy recovery Sach."

While Tendulkar may not represent his beloved Indian national team anymore, the injury may be cause for concern should the exhibition series he and Shane Warne championed in the United States last year was revived.

In that series, Tendulkar reminded the cricket world - and plenty of expat fans in the US - that he hadn't lost his timing and skill.

Tendulkar has continued to engage with his fans in retirement via his widely-followed social media platforms, which have been dominated in recent times by photos from his travel around the United Kingdom.
