Indoor Champs continue in Brisbane

CA’s third national championship will be held this week in Brisbane’s North.

Cricket Australia’s final national Indoor Cricket tournament of the season kicks off this weekend in Brisbane.

The Opens, consisting of Men’s, Women’s and the Men’s 19-and-under divisions, will be played throughout a week long tournament in Brisbane’s north.

The tournament will also see the 22nd edition of the Lord Taverners division for cricketers with an intellectual disability.

The Opens follow the Masters and Juniors tournaments held earlier in the year, with more than 500 players competing across the two tournaments.

Australia is the dominant power in international indoor cricket, having won every men’s Open World Cup since the tournament was established in 1995 and every women’s senior World Cup since it was first contested in 1998.

Australia’s 19-and-under Boys and Girls teams are also undefeated in World Cup Series to date.

This is the final Indoor championship before the WICF Junior World Cup, which will be held in Brisbane in September and see teams from New Zealand, South Africa and the sub-continent compete.

Indoor cricketer takes triple hat-trick

Cricket Australia’s National Talent Manager Greg Chappell believes Indoor Cricket is a sport that appeals to all types of cricketers and is a vital link in the pathway program.

“Indoor Cricket is seen as a very important part of the pathway,” Chappell said.

"The game of cricket has changed enormously since I began playing…the modern cricketer has to be more flexible mentally and physically than ever before.

“It’s really important to let everyone know that there is a game out there that can appeal to all ages, whether they are male or female, there is a game for them.”

Previously, first-class players Andrew Tye, Jason Floros and Clive Rose have played in the tournament with Queensland Bulls and Hobart Hurricanes spinner Cameron Boyce a member of the Strathpine Inside Sportz Centre where the championships will be held.
