Peter Siddle wins the Aussie battle on day one

Peter Siddle has made his Nottinghamshire debut with a solid 40 runs to take his team past 300 on day one of their County Championship match against Middlesex at Lord's.

The Australia fast bowler was greeted with a balmy flat deck when he strode out to bat, nudging the visitors out in front with his 35-ball 40, including five boundaries and a six, before a leading edge off the bowling of James Harris flew to Eoin Morgan to end the day's play.

Fellow Australian team-mate, Phil Jacques, was out for 14 runs in the ninth over.

Middlesex captain Chris Rogers will have to wait until tomorrow to see if he can improve on his start to the English county season after losing the toss and being sent in to field.
