Big knocks and hat-tricks across the country
Triple century highlights big weekend
Tull’s epic Sunday
In the biggest knock of the weekend, Mater Hill opening batsman James Tull notched 341 against Silent Assassins in Queensland’s Warehouse Cricket Association.
Any score of 300-plus is a formidable effort, but what made Tull’s performance all the more impressive was that it took place in a one-day game, with Mater Hill tallying 5-457 off 44 overs to setup a crushing 225-run win.
Tull’s innings featured 25 sixes and 34 fours and included a 212 fifth-wicket stand with teammate, and second-highest scorer, Troy Dean. Incredibly, Dean contributed just 36 runs to the partnership.

Damien Wright here, right now
Former Tasmania Tigers cricketer and current Hobart Hurricanes coach Damien Wright wound back the clock with 118 runs at the top of the order for the Kingston Crows in the Huon Channel Cricket Association.
Called down to play for the club by former Tasmania and Victoria Bushrangers fast bowler Gerard Denton, Wright struck 13 sixes and six boundaries in the Twenty20 fixture to lift the home side to 2/233.
Wright was also miserly with the ball, conceding five runs in two wicketless overs in Kingston’s 103-run victory. Image Id: ~/media/E89983FAD0E640BA8887F71B6298028B
Narre Warren duo lead romp
Narre Warren CC left-arm orthodox bowler Jarryd Straker picked up the unbelievable figures of 9-16, including a hat-trick, inside 15 overs in Dandenong District Cricket Association play this round.
Straker was denied the an even rarer 10 wicket haul by teammate John Mentiplay who broke through the defences of tailender Matthew Whiting to end the Lyndale Cricket Club innings on 67.
After posting 3-173 with the bat, Mentiplay would take the honours in the second innings, collecting 7-40 to go with Straker’s 3-9, and seal a dominant outright victory for the Magpies.
