Following his List A debut in the RYOBI One-Day Cup in October, New South Wales’s Greg Davidson is set to make his First Class debut in the Bupa Sheffield Shield in the fixture between Tasmania and Queensland at Blundstone Arena.
Davidson to debut
Davidson started his cricket career at age seven for Greystanes Cricket Club within the Parramatta Junior Cricket Association. In 1987/88, he began joined the Parramatta District Cricket Club and made his First Grade debut only a couple of seasons later. What followed was 21 consecutive seasons for Parramatta, 16 of which were in the First Grade. For five seasons, Davidson captained the First Grade, and was club captain for three seasons. In total, Greg played 242 First Grade games.
In 2008/09 Davidson started umpiring after retiring from playing the previous season. After just two seasons in 2009/10, Davidson made his First Grade debut alongside National Umpire Panel member Gerard Abood. His umpiring career so far in Sydney has yielded 90 first grade matches, including three 50 limited over finals and the last two First Grade Finals.
Davidson is a product of the national pathway, having been involved in:-
• Three Cricket Australia Under 19 National Championships
• Five Toyota Future League matches
• Four 2nd XI matches
• Two Under 19 International matches involving Australia, Pakistan, India and New Zealand
Not only a long standing career as a cricketer and umpire, Davidson can also claim his involvement in the sport as a curator. In 1987 Davidson started his apprenticeship as a greenkeeper and for 15 years prepared wickets. Currently Davidson holds a management role within his local Council as a Parks Supervisor.
