Indian legend set to feature in movie by award-winning British director
Tendulkar to play himself in film
Sachin Tendulkar will play himself in a film being made on the Indian cricketing legend’s life, to be directed by award-winning British director James Erskine, BBC reports.
One of the sport’s all-time greats, Tendulkar is worshipped in India after spending more than 20 years at the top level and breaking a host of records in the process.
"Shooting for the film has been going on for the past year and we aim to continue filming through the year," Krishna Ananthan of the production company 200NotOut told BBC.
“We are aiming to release it by the end of this year or early next year.”
The film is yet to be given a title but will be between 90 and 120 minutes, according to Ananthan.
While Tendulkar’s feats on the cricket field are what earned him his legendary status, it will be his life away from the game that is focused upon.
"It will be mostly about his personal life since his cricketing career is well known," a company spokesman told BBC.
Ananthan also did not believe Tendulkar’s lack of acting experience would prove to be an issue.
“He is not acting,” he said. “He's just playing himself.”
Tendulkar played his last Test in November 2013, having made a world record 51 hundreds and 15,921 runs, while his tally of 49 ODI centuries and 18,426 runs is also unmatched.
