Match in a tweet: Dynamic Dottin’s late fireworks helps the Heat record comeback win over the Sixers.
The score: Sydney Sixers 6-138 (Healy 48, Perry 42) lost to Brisbane Heat 5-139 (Dottin 60 no, Jonnasen 30) by five wickets.
The hero: We had all heard about the hitting prowess of Deandra Dottin and she proved it in her first outing by stroking a masterly 60 from 44 balls. The West Indian superstar's flamboyant innings was a masterclass on how to construct a chase. Coming to the crease in the eighth over with still over 100 runs required, Dottin calmly built her innings before exploding at the end. It took her 10 balls to hit her first four but after that than she managed to find the rope on nine occasions. The highlight of her innings was a towering six off one knee that ended up at the entry gates at the North Sydney Oval. And to add to it, she also picked up two wickets with ball.
The support act: Dottin needed a partner in crime if she was going to get the Heat across the line and she found one in Jess Jonassen. The Heat all-rounder was the perfect helping hand, scoring a brisk 30 from 18 balls which included three fours and a six. Their partnership was one the key reasons the Heat were able to chase down the target of 139 from the precarious position of 4-38. Jonnasen topped her effort with the bat with figures of 4-0-25-2 with the ball.
The partnership: When Jess Jonassen joined Dottin at the crease the Heat still required 101 runs to win from 11.2 overs. It was a daunting task but both women bided their time, worked the ball into gaps and then chose the right moment to attack. Through precision and power, the pair brought the equation down to 25 required from 24 balls before Jonassen perished. The partnership between the pair had yielded 76 runs which included 11 boundaries between them. At the end of the day, it was defining partnership of the match.
The consolation act: Southern Stars ‘keeper Alyssa Healy's early fireworks at the start set the tone for the Sixers. Dropped on zero, Healy made the most of her chance by unleashing a series of lusty blows in the power-play. Willing to hit the ball over the top, Healy dispatched anything full to the boundary. Healy's dazzling innings included three brutal sixes and five handsome fours. Her opening partnership of 74 in just 9.5 overs propelled the Sixers to a competitive score of 6-138.
The shot: Dottin’s monster hit off Ellyse Perry in the 13th over ended up near the spectators entrance at the North Sydney Oval. The powerful West Indian’s 80-metre strike off one knee will surely have been noted by the rest of the WBBL sides.
Next Stop: Both teams go head to head again on Monday evening at Sydney’s picturesque Drummonye Oval.
