Heat sign Feldman, retain Floros

Queensland fast bowler joins up with Brisbane while allrounder re-signs

After a colourful and round-about journey, proud Queenslander Luke Feldman considers he has finally come home.

The my FootDR Queensland Bulls paceman will join the Brisbane Heat for this year’s KFC Big Bash League tournament after playing with four other BBL clubs.

For Feldman, 31, it means his BBL career has come full circle after being an original target to turn out in teal for the Heat in the inaugural season.

Instead, he played in the purple of the Hobart Hurricanes (BBL|01), the magenta of the Sydney Sixers (BBL|02), the lime of Sydney Thunder (BBL|03) and green of Melbourne Stars (BBL|04) before fielding a call from new Heat coach Daniel Vettori about his plans for BBL|05.

“I don’t mind if people think I’m the Willie Mason of the BBL,” said Feldman, referring to the much travelled NRL player currently with his fifth premiership club.

“Anyway he played for the (North Queensland) Cowboys so that sounds OK to me.

“It’s been a bit of a journey but I was really pleased to work something out with Dan. I’ve always been a passionate Queenslander, although I have enjoyed playing with all the BBL teams I have been with.

“I think it has helped me too with seeing how other players and coaches prepare for games and going away over the summer has been fun. But nothing beats being home.”

Feldman will be joined in the Brisbane ranks by his Bulls teammate Jason Floros, who has re-signed with the club after making his Heat BBL debut last season after previously playing with the Sydney Thunder.

Brisbane coach Daniel Vettori, who was briefly a club mate of Feldman when the paceman turned out for the Northern Knights in the NZ T20 competition a few seasons ago, said both players brought excellent skills to the group.

“Lukey Feldman is quite skilled with the ball and can be used anywhere in the bowling line-up, while Jason is a very handy all-round player with his hitting, slow bowling and fielding.

“I saw some nice touches from ‘Flo’ last season so he’s going to play an important role with us.

“Luke was the Sixers Player of the Year a few seasons ago so we know he can deliver at this level.”

Today’s announcement of Feldman and Floros mean the Heat have confirmed 14 players from their mandatory 18-player squad.

The Heat will get their BBL|05 campaign underway on Saturday, December 19 against Melbourne Renegades at the Gabba, with tickets on sale from October.

Memberships are currently on sale, with the all-new Gold Reserved seating selling out last week.
