England batsman stranded on 98 after Jimmy Anderson incorrectly given out against Australia
Umpire error denies Taylor maiden century
The ICC has admitted to an umpiring error that may have cost England's James Taylor a maiden one-day international century late in Australia's victory at the MCG on Saturday night.
The right-hander finished the match stranded on 98 not out when No.11 Jimmy Anderson was adjudged run out to close England's innings on 231 in pursuit of Australia's 9-342.
Match report: Australia punish England at the MCG
Taylor, facing Josh Hazlewood on 98, was struck on the pad and set off for a leg bye as the ball trickled towards Glenn Maxwell at gully.
Hazlewood and Australia's close fielders launched an appeal for leg before wicket and as umpire Aleem Dar raised his finger, Maxwell fired a throw at the stumps at the striker’s end, hitting the target.

Taylor reviewed the lbw decision and replays showed the ball to be sliding down the leg side.
Square leg umpire Kumar Dharmasena then asked Third Umpire Billy Bowden to review the run-out chance. Anderson was found to be short of his ground and was given out to end the match.
Taylor protested, and rightfully so, given the Playing Conditions for this 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup dictates a dead ball should have been called when Umpire Dar raised his finger.
Article 3.6a of Appendix 6 of the Decision Review System (DRS) Playing Conditions states, in part, that: "If following a Player Review request, an original decision of ‘Out’ is changed to ‘Not Out’, then the ball is still deemed to have become dead when the original decision was made."

The ICC released a brief statement after the match confirming Anderson had been incorrectly given out.
"The PCT (Playing Control Team) spoke to the England team management and acknowledges that the game ended incorrectly and an error was made," the statement read.
