Aussies out to increase Lankan pain

Australia's Under 19s have already sealed their one-day series against Sri Lanka, but there will be no let-up in intensity says fast bowler Iain Carlisle.

The hosts lead Sri Lanka's Under 19s 3-1 after four games of the Youth ODI Series, after a four-wicket win on Friday secured an unassailable advantage.

But Carlisle, a 17-year-old quick who represented NSW Metro at the under-17 championships and the CA XI at the under-19 championships, says the job isn't finished.

"It's a massive honour. To be able to do that for your country, there's no better feeling really," he said.

"We're all very happy that we won the series but we know the job's not done yet.

"I think it's warranted that we get a 4-1 series lead, I think we deserve it from all the hard work we've done and for how we've played throughout the series.

"I think we're all very motivated to get that 4-1 series win."

The Australians will get that chance on Sunday – although showers are forecast for Hobart – at Kingston Twin Ovals, as they look to make it three wins in a row after the series was locked at 1-1.

Carlisle produced his best game of the series on Friday, claiming 2-18 off his eight overs, including the key wickets of opposition skipper Kamindu Mendis (seven) and top scorer Jehan Daniel (36).

The Australians restricted Sri Lanka to just 8-163 after the visitors won the toss and batted first.

And after stumbling to 3-2 in reply after some brilliant early bowling from the visitors, it was Austin Waugh (60), Jonathan Merlo (43 not out), Matthew Spoors (32) and Jack Edwards (15) forming partnerships to see the hosts home.

"I didn't actually feel that good bowling, but the ball came out very nicely," Carlisle said.

"I was able to pick up two wickets which was good to be able to contribute to this series."

"Being 3-2 (on Friday) was far from ideal.

"But I think the way that Jack and Aussie (Waugh) were able to steady the ship for a while there, and then Aussie and Spoors and Aussie and Merls at the end, it was just good that we were able to build partnerships and be able to get over the line chasing a small total, which is not always the easiest thing to do."

Play begins on Sunday at 9.30am local time.
